a. The Chief of Police is authorized to maintain a reserve police force and may appoint persons to the position of reserve police officer who meet the standards as set forth in law, by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the Police Department’s rules and regulations. Reserve officers shall serve at the pleasure of the Chief of Police and the Chief of Police may suspend or revoke the authority of any such officer at any time.

b. The Chief of Police may select and appoint any Level I reserve police officer as a “designated” reserve police officer as provided by California Penal Code Section 830.6(a)(2). The authority of any reserve police officers so designated includes the full powers and duties of a peace officer as provided by California Penal Code Section 830.1. (Ord. #231-2019, S2)
